I’m on a mission to help people living with diabetes experience life to the fullest.

If you feel like diabetes is taking up way too much space in your life, you’re in the right place. It doesn’t have to be this way. Diabetes doesn’t have to feel like a ball and chain is tied around your ankle, holding you back from everything you want to become. I am committed to guiding you with resources, tools, and practical advice that truly makes a difference in how you experience diabetes.

IMG_0044Hi, I’m Julie!

And I have a big vision for leading people with diabetes into living with freedom, despite the disease.

I believe that managing diabetes takes work and determination, and is sometimes more of an art than a science. Yes, the numbers are important, but so is the path to success. I am committed to using the most up-to-date knowledge of the disease with a real-life approach to helping you live your healthiest life!

I want to help you gain control of diabetes so that you can spend time on what matters most! I understand that having a back-up plan is important, even with our health. It’s okay to not get it right all the time.

So why should you listen to me? Well, I earned a doctorate of Pharmacy degree in 2000, and became a Certified Diabetes Educator in 2002 (now called Certified Diabetes Care and Education Specialist). I’ve spent the last 15 years educating family medicine physicians on the best practices in diabetes care, and talking to patients about achieving their diabetes-related health goals. I have a unique understanding of the medicines and science of diabetes, plus the experience of working with tons of patients. And just as important, I’m a busy mom of 3 boys! I know that our days don’t always go as planned. I’m familiar with  stress, crazy schedules, and interruptions.

I know that what you tell your doctor in the exam room isn’t the whole story. I know that you have questions, concerns and fears that you don’t voice. And really, your health care team sometimes holds back with you, too. We are mostly limited by time, but can also struggle to explain things in ways that make sense to you.

Can we make a pact to be honest here? My goal is to teach you about managing diabetes with words you can understand.

And just to be clear….I’m not your doctor. I’m not trying to be your doctor. I don’t know your medical history. I do have medical knowledge, but we are not in a formal provider-patient relationship. My advice is to a general audience and does not always apply specifically to your situation. Always check with your health care team before making changes to your medication regimen. My job here is to provide you with education and empower you to succeed in achieving optimal health.

I’m happy to have you here! I hope you’ll check out some of our resources to help you learn, connect and advance in managing diabetes and health.
